New Twitter Login Page

Picture 8 New Twitter Login Page

There’s a new Twitter login page slowly rolling out today! The page is much more useful by including a list to the left that includes a group of users who are using the service (whom you can follow if you choose – it would be nice if they add a follow button to the hover effect on these icons though) and a center auto-scrolling list that shows the top tweets real-time (stream comes from the twitter account “toptweets”). The page still includes a scrolling marquee indicating the latest trending topics but they’ve added a unique hover that allows you to read a little about the topics – great UI and very useful!

The page is still being added to but so far, I think the home page is going in a great direction because it makes it easier for users to explore and find new interesting people to follow!

Kudos!

What’s so special about an iPhone eh!?

Got up for the launch of the iPhone at 4am yesterday and got myself a white 16GB iPhone 3GS. Luckily my new iPhone has video recording now ;-) so I recorded my first video on it of this funny old man! When we were walking out the apple store this Old Man came up to us and wanted to know “what’s so special about an iPhone”! Of course, I had to test out the video recording capability of the iPhone 3GS in the process! He couldnt even tell I was recording him lol!

Poor guy just needed a little convincing on why the iPhone is so special!

Aside from that, I wonder what he was doing inside the mall before hours any way!?
Here are some shots that I took using the iPhone 3GS 3MP Camera:

I wouldn’t call it ice cream….

page 1 I wouldnt call it ice cream....

I’d call it the most revolutionary treat I’ve ever had! Coldstone Creamery has reinvented ice cream with their new treat: Jell-o Pudding Ice Cream!

A thought came to me the last time I dipped my spoon in to a messy ice-cream-dripping treat, “Why can’t they invent an ice cream that doesn’t drip every where!?” Well, Coldstone answered my prayers when they joined forces with Jell-o, the makers of every kids favorite summer treat, to create an ice-cream like no other!

I first learned about this awesome treat on twitter and thought it was a joke, until I was shocked to find the delicious delights on the Coldstone official website!

The new pudding ice-cream comes in two flavors: Chocolate-Y Goodness and Butterscotch Velvet.

The pudding ice-cream has an amazing texture of pudding and ice-cream combined. This has also brought me to the fact that it does NOT melt! If you leave it out for 4 hours Read More »

Microsoft’s Bing Commercials

I have a couple of dislikes with Bing starting with the sponsored links placement, but right now the positives out weigh the negatives.

For some reason, when I view Bing’s search results I feel claustrophobic. When I search with Google’s search engine I feel like I can see more and everything doesn’t look so squashed! A simple right align could fix this on Bing. But, beside for that, I’m pretty impressed with Bing. I’ve decided to search with it for a week to see whether I can live without Google or not. The results are pretty accurate and extremely close to the search results I receive from Google so that is a plus!
Aside from the search engine, or should I say “decision engine”, Microsoft launched Bing travel earlier today and I find it incredibly useful! I will definitely use it to plan my next trip. Bing travel’s goal is to help people make smarter, more informed decisions when it comes to traveling. They aim to reduce the amount of time consumers spend searching for travel information by aggregating results into one place. It is helpful since it uses price prediction a feature acquired from Farecast (Microsoft acquired Farecast in Feb 2008 for  $115 Million),  an algorithm that predicts the best time to purchase an airline ticket based on previous rising and falling prices. It also uses rate indicator, which analyzes rate data from thousands of hotels to determine whether the current price is a good deal or not. This can be seen by a green label indicating a deal, a yellow label indicating an average rate, and a red label indicating a rate over the average room rate of that specified hotel.

If you want to hear more about Bing travel you can listen to episode 4 of the Daily Bit podcast at TechNestReport.com

Also, if you haven’t heard about cashback, it is another awesome feature within the Bing search engine. It allows you to search for products and receive cashback to the account of your choice! This isn’t those silly cashback deals where they trick you into a purchase and then post so much small print that they jipp you in the end. The way Bing cashback works is that you receive money back directly into your paypal, bank account, or by check by mail once you’ve made a purchase through the system (there is a wait period – but you do get it back!).

Here’s how it works:

Lets say we want to get a great deal on a Samsung HZ10W digital camera. All we need to do is search in the shopping section of Bing for samsung HZ10W digital camera, then Bing will give a listing of all the online retail centers that carry this product and will present us with a golden coin icon. This icon indicates wether or not the online store is participating in the Bing cashback promotion. Right next to that little coin, will also be a percantage meter indicating how much you will receive back after purchasing your product with the retailer! You will receive payment after a designated grace period is met. This only ensures that you don’t return the item you purchased from the retailer.

I think this is a great feature and it will definitly grab some attention once more people know about it and undrstand how it works.

Feel free to share you comments about your experience with Bing below! :-)

Twitter’s Down….

And all it left me with is this stinkin’ blog post.

20 things to do when twitter is down!

1. Write a tweet about it – oh wait twitter’s down! (this is usually the first thought tweeps have, isn’t it? lol)

2. Stare at a wall/computer screen.

3. Obsessively click the refresh button on twitter.com until it comes back up!

4. Do something productive. (It’s not like this happens when twitter’s up. So, why not catch up on that week old stack of papers sitting on your desk!)

5. Use The Birdhouse App to save your thoughts until twitter comes back up to share them!

6. Write a blog post complaining about twitter and the things you can do until it comes back up.

7. Watch a Youtube video.

8. Go to this URL: http://whentwitterisdown.com/

9. Get some fresh air!

10. Write a good explaination of what Twitter actually is and try to explain it to someone – without using twitter!

11. Make some cupcakes, by the time your done, twitter should be up and you can celebrate with cupcakes!

12. Read a book. (You may learn something new to share on Twitter!)

13. Read articles on TechCrunch. (You may find an awesome article to share on Twitter!)

14. Pay attention to tweetdeck and complain about the fact that you continue to get updates, but can’t send any out!

15. Call your parents. Tell them that twitter is down. Then begin your explanation of what a twitter is.

16. Make a vlog/blog about how much you take twitter for granted when it’s up.

17. Go to the gym. (Sorry, you’ll have to tweet about it later)

18. Watch the latest “get a mac” ads!

19. Download iPhone apps! (Don’t forget to tweet about them when Twitter comes back up!)

20. After going through all those steps, check to see if twitter is back up!

Twitter is still down for me and I have nothing to do now but follow these tips!

When twitter comes back up you can tell me what you did when twitter was down @lizettegagne

Enjoy ;-)
